“Personal development is the belief that you are worth the effort, time, and energy needed to develop yourself.” -Denis Waitley
What does lifelong learning mean?
Lifelong learning comes from making the choice to pursue knowledge throughout life. It requires a learning mindset and self-motivation. Continuous learning not only increases knowledge, but also increases the ability to use knowledge. Learning does not only mean textbook learning or formal education. Learning can take place from experiences and observations, as well as books and teachers/trainers. Ongoing learning has many personal and professional benefits.
What are soft skills and why are they important?
The concept of soft skills is sometimes difficult to understand. These skills are not easily defined or measured and reflect how you approach others and handle your professional life. Soft skills are transferable skills - meaning they can be transferred from one job to another, as opposed to technical skills which are job specific. Examples of soft skills include communication, problem solving, and leadership.
Career Development
Setting career goals is an important step to career advancement. To set career goals, think about where you'd like to see yourself in the long term, then work backward setting smaller, short-term goals that are more easily achievable. Setting career goals will give you something to work toward and will also provide motivation to take the necessary steps to achieve long-term ambitions.
Benefits of reading.
Reading regularly provides the mind with mental stimulation. Studies show that staying mentally stimulated can slow, or possibly even stop the progress of dementia. The brain is a muscle and just like any other muscle, it requires exercise to keep it strong and healthy. In addition, everything you read adds new information to your brain which increases knowledge. The more you read, the more words you are exposed to allowing you to become more articulate and well-spoken.
